At the start of the 90s, three enterprising language enthusiasts developed a complete language service for companies: language courses, translations and interpreting services. Almost 25 years on and ElaN Languages is a leading player in the language business with offices in Brussels, Flanders, Wallonia, the Netherlands, France and Russia, with 40 members of staff, 1,800 freelancers - and the same innovative spirit it always had.
The very beginning
Wim Vanschooren, who worked as a freelance translator for several local SMEs in his spare time, set up ElaN Languages as a hobby. In September 1990, ElaN Languages was reinvented as a broader undertaking, the result of a collaboration with Eric and Peter Vaes, both active in the education sector.
ElaN reaps the benefits of its high quality service: in 2000 the company received the Qfor quality label for training organisations.
ElaN Film Nights sees the light of day. Every Monday, this film club welcomes ElaN clients and film fans at The RoxyTheatre in Beringen (Belgium) to watch a film from the non-commercial circuit.
La douce France
In its drive for international expansion, ElaN opens an office in the heart of Provence, France. ElaN France offers companies language training courses and translations that fully adhere to the ElaN philosophy.
From Russia with love
A second foreign branch opens its doors in Moscow. With ElaN Russia, the language agency is on the scene of one of the fastest growing markets in the world.
In 2008, ElaN Languages became the first Belgian agency to receive the EN 15038 European quality label. You could call this the ISO standard for translation agencies.
Crossing language barriers
With the opening of branches in Brussels and Louvain-la-Neuve, ElaN further extended its services in Belgium. The company is now able to meet the language needs of an increasing number of clients in the Brussels region and Wallonia.
ElaN Languages celebrated its twentieth anniversary with aplomb.
ElaN fully commits to digital services with the launch of the online platform MyElaN. From requesting price quotes to tracking the progress of translation projects and language courses, this tool offers a convenient and user-friendly solution for any language issue.
ElaN goes Dutch
On 1 August 2013, ElaN Netherlands opened its offices.
