Q&A – What does the international ISO 17100 standard represent?

You can rely on a translation by ElaN Languages. The proof? Two quality labels! In 2008, we were the first translation agency in the Benelux to obtain the European EN 15038 quality label. And since last year, we have been the proud owner of the ISO 17100 certificate, the international standard for translation services and the successor of the EN 15038 label.

Thoroughly vetted

“The labels are subject to a thorough audit every two years,” explains Patrick Simons, Quality Manager at ElaN Languages. He ensures that the audits go well. “The Veritas auditing agency looks at the standards that translation agencies must comply with on various levels: how we monitor translation projects, the transparency of our procedures, our quality assurance system, the competence of our translators and revisers, our interactions with customers and translators, etc.,” adds Patrick. “This look behind the scenes always reveals a great result. We’ve achieved a good score of more than 90% each time, with last year’s peak being a score of 95%.”

Quality guaranteed

You can rest assured when you order a translation from ElaN Languages. “Indeed, the ISO 17100 standard also includes several important guarantees. The customer knows that a native speaker will translate their texts and a second native speaker will subject it to a thorough revision,” Patrick explains. “We have everything in-house in terms of technology, including up-to-date translation memories and other resources, to achieve the highest level of quality. An added bonus is that our project managers closely monitor every translation assignment. The Veritas auditing agency gave us another pat on the back last year because we also comply with all the requirements when it comes to urgent translation projects.”
